Please welcome this month’s Sustainable Youth Spotlight: Alexia Boyagian!
Alexia and her family have a garden at the Cobourg community gardens where they are able to grow their own food. She is passionate about reducing environmental impact through lowering her consumption of meats.
“Producing beef uses 20 times the land and generated 20 times the emissions as producing beans, per gram of protein, the World Resources Institute reports”(1). An everyday change can be to simply reduce meat consumption without necessarily switching to a completely new diet. By investing in homegrown produce as well as shopping local you can lessen your carbon footprint significantly.

Great news, Alexia and Tovan. I’m trying growing tomatoes for the first time in over 50 years! Have a lot to learn but looking forward to fresh, tasty tomatoes fresh off the vine in sandwiches and hamburgers.
