Hey Sustainable Peeps,

If you’ve been frustrated by the inconsistency of our cycling infrastructure then we at Sustainable Cobourg couldn’t agree more! It’s very frustrating .

As a matter of fact our Bicycle Action Committee has been working on that for almost 10 years! Yes, the wheels of progress are slow but we are hoping that this year we will get council’s ok to include the suggestions in our ‘Cobourg Cycling Infrastructure Completion Proposal’ which is being presented to the Town’s Advisory Committees throughout July, August and September.

We would love it if you would like to join the Zoom presentations by requesting that Brent Larmer, the Town Clerk and Manager of Legislative Services, send you the Zoom Link so you can be in the ‘audience’. His contact info:

On Tuesday August 3rd the Bicycle Action Committee of Sustainable Cobourg presented this proposal to the Parks and Rec. Advisory Committee and it was endorsed. And earlier, in July, it was supported by the Sustainability and Climate Emergency Advisory Committee.

On August 18 they will be presenting to the Accessibility Advisory Committee and on August 26 to the Transportation Advisory Committee. Finally, on Thursday September 2 at 8:30 a.m. to the DBIA.

Your show of support, by attending virtually, will go a long way in impressing our Council that the improvements outlined should be part of the 2022 Town Budget deliberations. That is our hope.

in case you missed my monthly talk with David Newland on Northumberland 89.7, truly local radio, where I talk about the advantages of cycling for our health and the health of the planet, you can download the podcast from the 89.7 website. It was on Monday July 26. I’m on his show every fourth Monday just after the 9:00 a.m. news.

NEVER FORGET, WE ARE THE CHANGE

Best,
Gigi
