Hey Sustainable Peeps! I can’t believe how long it’s been since I last talked to you. Well, we’ve been busy on your behalf.
Just need to tell you that our All Candidates Forum that we hosted with Blue Dot Northumberland and Council of Canadians on October 9th, exceeded our expectations. We had close to 300 people attend and all 5 candidates were wonderful! Denny Manchee was the moderator and keep a convivial flow. Not an easy task! All 3 organizations collaborated on the questions which centred on various aspects of sustainability including environmental-concerns, (i.e. single-use plastic bottles) economic ( i.e.NAFTA), and social ( i.e. worker transition centres re The Task Force on Just Transition for Canadian Coal Power Workers and Communities).
And an amazing amount of participation from the audience when their questions were asked after the yummy intermission. I made a plum cake;) and there were a lot of tasty treats.
Our takeaway was that this community is really invested in creating a sustainable framework for tackling the big issues. First and foremost we need to protect our earth. That sentiment resonated with everyone there, including all of the candidates.
This month we’re holding our Annual General Meeting with Jeremy Clarke, one of our Corporate Members kicking it off by speaking about building sustainably and he does it! He’ll talk about how he does it so come and have a listen.
You can stay for the AGM part and get to hear what SC has been up to and where our intrepid committees hope to go with their projects. You can be part of it. You can see what we’re up to and even if you only have an hour a week or a month you can help make a difference.
Our secretary/recorder is hoping someone will step into her shoes so there’s a great opportunity for you to volunteer!
