A seed exchange will take place on Saturday, April 4, at the Go Green Together office, 739 D’Arcy Street (opposite the CCC), from 10:00 a.m. to noon. I realize this is Easter weekend but feel, as seed starting time is here, that it is important for this event to take place as soon as possible.

As well as giving people a venue to exchange seeds, part of the rationale for an event such as this is to give an opportunity for new gardeners and new seed savers to take part.

Therefore, it is not necessary to bring seeds in order to take home seeds!

Rather, everyone who attends should feel free to take 2 packets of seeds home – as long as supplies last.

In order to provide sufficient seed packets for this to happen, I suggest that people who do bring seed packets take two less seed packets home with them. For example:

  • if you bring 4 seed packets, you would only take 2 seed packets home
  • if you bring 5 seed packets, you would only bring 3 seed packets home.

Should surplus seeds be left over as a result of this system there will be a ‘seed scramble’ at 11:50 a.m., where people can pick up remaining seed packets even if it puts them over the suggested ‘limits’.

Although intended to be about exchanging seeds we have saved, it is also an opportunity to share excess commercial seeds you may have purchased. However, it is important that any commercial seeds brought to the exchange are NOT Hybrid seeds, as the plants from these seeds will not produce “true” seeds. Any seed packet labeled Heirloom, should be fine.

The commercial seeds should also NOT be GMO.

If you are bringing seeds please make sure your packets are clearly labeled with the type of seeds inside and any other information you feel is important.

Presentation:

From 10:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. there will be a presentation by Judy Newman from Seeds of Diversity.

She will give a short introduction to the Seeds of Diversity organization and then answer ‘seedy’ questions from the floor.

If you have any questions please contact David Brister at wintertime23@hotmail.com. Also, if you do plan to attend, please send me a quick e-mail to let me know you are coming, and also if you are bringing seeds. This will help me in setting up the tables.
