(Cobourg – September 12, 2011) With the growing concern about local, sustainable and healthy food, the Food Committee of Sustainable Cobourg (www.sustainablecobourg.ca) will bring taste to street level by serving up yummy Apple Smoothies. The Food Committee will be offering free sample smoothies, starting at 11 am, to celebrate Northumberland’s excellent local food as part of Cobourg’s Harvest Fest, September 17.
The committee teamed up with Pat Stuckless, HKPR health unit, to develop the smoothie project to highlight how delicious and nutritious CAN be quick and easy. Demonstrations of how to make this easy healthy treat will take place at the Food Committee booth in front of the TD Bank at 11am. and 2pm and the recipe will be available as well as an array of other food related resources.
“We are excited about linking our local farmer’s bountiful harvest with healthy and accessible ways to use their produce. Be sure to pick up our updated local grocers’ retail survey too,” says Food Committee chair Terry Marrocco.
There will also be a draw for a free Good Food Box provided by the Salvation Army and Community Family Services.
